FAQs
What is your training?
I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (with a minor focus in Spanish) at the University of Oregon in 2024. In the Fall of that same year, I began working towards my Master of Arts in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling at George Fox University. Since then, my graduate courses have focused on a wide variety of topics, including family and systems therapy, emotionally-focused therapy, shame and grace, and embodiment, among others.
What is the benefit of working with an intern?
I am on my own professional journey towards becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist. I am always trying to learn how I can become a better therapist, so I will do my best to make sure our time together is safe and productive.
What is your experience with children?
During my time at the University of Oregon, I completed a volunteer experience as a caregiver for their on-campus day care center. For 120 hours, I had the unique opportunity to learn how to best support 4 and 5 year old children in daily tasks, which included playtime, early reading and communication, and learning the importance of hygiene. This also included some specialized care for Autistic children. Additionally, I was a coach for a youth wrestling team in high school.
What can I expect if I come to see you?
Sessions with me will involve us building a safe and secure connection together, as I believe that this is the most valuable part of the therapy experience. We will find out how to make peace with the things that are making your life hard, paying careful attention to any emotional triggers that might come up as we work together. We will collaborate on your goals for therapy and I will check in with you frequently to see how our time together is working for you. Our ultimate goal will be to help you gather the tools and knowledge to support yourself through difficult life experiences with strength and confidence.
What if my child or teen doesn’t want me to participate?
It is normal for children to want some privacy in the therapy session and as their caregiver, you will still have an integral role! Part of the treatment we will do together will involve finding ways for you and other trusted adults in your child’s life to best support them as they navigate life stressors, meaning that you will be directly involved in their healing journey for emotional support and motivation. We may ask you to join us in session for check ins or check outs. I may invite you to have a caregiver-only session so we can review progress and your concerns. There are a lot of ways you can participate and support your child in their therapy. If you would like to further discuss what role you will play in treatment regardless of in-session participation, please let me know! I would love to find time for us to address your concerns.
